Adelaide and the Shooting Star

Today's Transcript

A storybook page, marred with a few splotches of ink. It reads:

THE PHANTOM PRINCESS. Below the title is an illustration of a girl in a crown, crystals forming around her.

Once upon a time, there was a princess who led a simple, solitary life. Though she was cared for, and lived comfortably, she was desperately lonely.

As if to answer her prayers, a charming knight appeared, and immediately swept her off her feet. The knight was unlike anyone the princess had ever known – braver, cleverer… caring, even. Always there to defeat whatever manner of creature or beast troubled the princess.

And though their relationship was strained at times, the princess hoped that the knight truly loved her back.

But one day, the princess was beset by a monster more fearsome and terrifying than any other. As always, the knight came rushing to the princess’s aid, and – as always – slew the beast without a second thought.

When the knight approached to comfort the princess, though, instead of gratitude and affection, she cowered before them.
